The menstrual cycle is the period between the first day of one period and the first of the next. It usually lasts 28 days, but there may be cases in which it lasts between 21 and 35 days.
It has two distinct phases. The first goes from the first day of the period to the 14th, and the second from the 15th to the 28th.
In the first phase is when the period occurs, which usually lasts about 5 days, varying between 3 and 7 days depending on each woman.
First day of menstruation, doubts and advice
- On the first day of the period, along with the second, 70% of the amount of menstrual flow is usually lost. This day is counted as the first day of the period when the woman begins to bleed or have brown spots. This staining is due to the fact that the blood had been retained in a small space in the uterus and when it finally comes out, it has a brown or darker color.
- For this first day of the period, it is recommended to exercise and thus avoid pain or symptoms caused by menstruation such as swelling, fatigue, depression and irritability. The most recommended are aerobic exercises that help release endorphins and lift your spirits.
- It is also recommended that on this day water is essential in your diet, it is advisable to drink about 8 glasses of water. This advice should be followed throughout the menstrual cycle to avoid bloating that can be caused by dehydration.
